Using TVs in Decor

When integrating a TV within the decoration of a room it is important to think about what the TV is going to stand on. If you aren't going to mount your television to a wall then you will need some sort of TV stand, which, in some cases, can be the ugliest part of a television. If the decoration of your room is traditional, then select a television stand which has an antique appearance and will disguise your television when it is not in use. A unit with drawers, and preferably doors which can be closed over the television screen, will not only provided useful storage, but will also act as a prized item of furniture rather than a television. If you are opting for a larger television, such as a plasma screen, you may find it hard to find an antique style television cabinet which will accommodate such a large television; however, if your budget allows, you could commission a cabinet to be made especially for your larger television.

If you have a flat screen television which can be wall mounted you do not need to disguise your television within a cabinet, as you can instead make your television part of a walled display. First, select the positioning of your TV so that it can be best viewed from your preferred furniture layout. Once you have positioned and mounted your television you can select framed paintings, mirrors and photographs to go around the television. When doing this you want to select the positioning of the framed items carefully as you do not want to be distracted whilst watching the television; however, if positioned well, such items help the television to blend in with the room's decor as it will not be the only item on the wall. If you do not want your television to blend-in but instead stand out as an impressive piece of technology mounted on the wall, buy a silver rather than black cased TV. The silver not only looks sleek and impressive, but when the television is turned off it stops it from appearing as a big black box as the blank black screen will be mounted by a glossy silver frame.

Televisions can also be integrated into the decor of your room by using devices which hide them away when they are not being used. Flip down kitchen TVs are a good example of this as they can be tucked underneath a kitchen cabinet when you have finished watching them. Similarly you can install a pull out shelf within a cupboard so that the television can be slid out when you want to watch it, and then neatly pushed back in again when you have finished your viewing.
