4 Tips For Taking Great Vacation Videos

1. Wherever you go for your family trip, always try to get some video footage or photos that indicate where it was that you spent your vacation. The idea is to provide both interest and info at the same time. You can show images of road signs, billboards, landscapes and even tourist brochures and local maps. You can then edit all of these images into the rest of the home video on either side of your other footage.
2. One of the most important things to remember is to make sure that you have enough coverage of everyone on your family vacation. Usually the footage of the children is abundant and Mom and Dad are left out. With digital editing, you can always add some still photographs of Mom and Dad but you should try to get the video footage as well.
3. Always aim at getting a few "candid" clips. These are the ones that your family will remember the most. One of the ways that you can try to do this is to carry your video camera around without even taping at first. Keep a little distance from the other members of your family. This may allow your family to feel more at ease in front of the your camera so that when you actually start taping they will act more naturally. If that technique does not work for you, then try turning the camera on, setting it to a wide-angle lens, and then placing the camera in a stable place that can see all of the action. You will need to have the zoom lens wide enough to see all the action.
4. Finally, there are the classic moments. I always look for the classic moments of humor and then try to tape them on video. For me it is when I capture my kids on video at one of those times when they are being too funny. Sometimes the conversation between my two little boys is so crazy that I cannot even hold the camera steadily because I am laughing so hard. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not but it is always worth the effort.
