Every lifetime has choices about how you are going to live it and what you are going to do with it. In school, you are taught to decide what you want to do to become a wonderful achieving member of society. There are so many teachers supporting education and getting a good job, although some support music and the arts. Most of them know however that it is hard to survive on a musician's wage or become a world renowned artist and make a good living. One thing we are not taught in school is that we are all empowered by an innate power within ourselves that can provide us with a great deal of insight and discernment.
Yes, life is about achievement and accomplishment, but it is also realizing you are an infinite being with access to an infinite pool of knowledge that brings you to a place which is greater than you are. It demands that you wake up from the numbness of life and see it with new eyes and a new heart. Nobody that walks this path can deny the rewards and the feelings of striving to let go of the shackles of the material world. It doesn't mean that you are going to live under a bridge and live on the fringes of society. It means you will begin to identify less with the materiality that you identify with. You no longer feel satisfied with buying stuff. You don't need those things or to have those things to see who you are.
Usually there is some spark or some life event that sends someone on a quest for something more. When it happens, some turn to religion, some turn to the New Age Community and some seek out teachers who say it like it is and have skills to support the emergence of an awakening soul.
They say all roads lead to God and all types of teachers are needed. Some teachers will teach you with the belief systems they have which will take you on a long meandering road of discovery and blind alleys.
Others have smatterings of the truth thrown into a pile of entertainment, designed to satisfy the weekend workshop junkie. There are a very few who will speak the truth and steer you on a steady path to the goal where money is not the most important thing. They have this sense of appropriateness and truth that they live by. This is the teacher you should seek. You may not always like what they say, but they will always tell you the truth.
When you decide to become different and seek from within and not with your mouth or your logical mind, you will find that you are gently prodded in a direction which will reduce your emotional pain and suffering and bring you to a place of greater stillness. You still have industry and purpose but you are not driven by the whining of the ego.
