Loudspeakers and More Loudspeakers

If you're an audio junky, you know there are plethora of loudspeaker manufacturers. Why? Is the market so great that each company can survive? There is a list of speaker manufacturers on Wikipedia, and the count of companies in the business is around 290 worldwide. The total for companies in the USA producing loudspeakers is close to sixty.

You might be hard pressed to find but a few who could name a dozen or so manufacturers of loudspeakers. Bose, Cerwin Vega, JBL, Klipsch, Pioneer and Yamaha might be among the top choices by the average consumer. As with many topics and interest in our lives, only a select minority become real enthusiast about a particular topic. So it is with audio speakers perhaps. There are exceptions where some activities have mass appeal - sports for example. And, we can not forget music as a big interest for most all people of every walk of life. It doesn't necessarily translate that each music listener becomes infatuated with audio equipment, though. We've all been a gasped when visiting a friend, and they began playing an artist from their valued music collection on a system with really cheap speakers acquired at the local mass outlet store.

The multitude of loudspeaker companies keep churning out their speakers, nevertheless. Each company can have several different lines of loudspeakers to add to the maze of options. Apparently there is a large enough segment of consumers to keep most of the manufacturers afloat. A good reason why so many companies can compete is that there is no ideal or perfect loudspeaker. Anyone can have an opinion of what is an ideal sounding speaker. People can choose speakers on the basis of their preferences and budget. Some folks have bigger budget than others. There are quite a few companies who cater to the high-end market.

There are speakers that can sound laidback and warm. There are speakers that can sound bright and forward. Loudspeakers can excel at sounding neutral. Differences among speakers can go on and on. What are their SPL ratings? Is it a two-way or three-way? Floorstanding speakers vs. ones requiring speaker stands. After all is said and done, anyone looking for new loudspeakers should find the ideal speaker to suit their taste.
